5 May - Ft Myers Beach and Lunch with My Cousins Shawntelle and Melody

Today we drove to Ft Myers Beach and reconnected with my cousins Shawntelle and Melody, originally from Rockford IL.  As mentioned yesterday, the way life took us and for no specific reason, we had not seen each other for many, many years.  So it was a wonderful reunion!

Doreen and I parked the truck in the fringes of a Walmart parking lot and then rode with Shawntelle and Melody to Ft Myers Beach.  The view from the San Carlos Blvd bridge was spectacular!  This picture does not do it justice.

We parked near the Crescent Beach Family Park which is at the entrance of the fishing pier. Our prudence with parking the truck at Walmart was warranted as there would have been no where to park the almost 22 ft long big ol' brown RAM truck.

After parking we walked out on the pier to admire the view.  The beach was occupied but not very busy.

Looking south down Estero Blvd - shops and restaurants on both sides.  This area is called Times Square

On the way out someone commented there were some dolphins surfacing there and we captured a couple on video

The sun was very bright, I could not see the screen and my arms are not long enough for good selfies! I know, excuses, excuses! Sorry I chopped Doreen off here!

After spending some time on the pier we walked down Times Square and headed for the Salty Crab Bar & Grill for lunch.  We thought with it being Cinco De Mayo it might be busier, but we got right in.

It was quite hot with the sun bearing down so we chose open-air seating which is near the outside but covered.  With the gulf breeze it was very pleasant.  Shawntelle and Melody ordered some appetizers for us all including oysters and crab dip, and the cold drinks came quickly also.  We all ordered sea food of some type.  Doreen is not a huge fan of exotic sea food so she ordered the fish and chips.

Oysters Rockefeller for me!  Yum!!

Thanks again to my cousins for their hospitality and friendship!  We really enjoyed our time together and are so glad we were able to reconnect with them.  We had become friends on Facebook some time back, but in-person connections are so much better.  We talked and talked and laughed and laughed!!  We hope to come back down here some day when we can spend some more time with them.  We will be careful planning the next trip to avoid the hurricanes 😀

Tomorrow we plan to visit the lighthouse on Sanibel and then the Delnor-Wiggins Pass State Park beach area.
