28 May - Safe Harbor Restaurant and Seafood Market, Osprey Cove RV Park, Harbor Scenery

Another relaxing day in paradise.  This morning we did a little routine maintenance on the RV while Doreen washed our bedspread and a few other clothes.  They have a wonderful laundry facility here just behind our camp site.  They have huge, new industrial-style machines and it is all free.  I changed out our water filter elements and flushed our tanks.

We drove through the base and out Gate 5 which is near the Safe Harbor Restaurant that we ate at a few days ago and also near the ferry.  We found out Gate 5 is closed on the weekends which is good to know because we plan to use the ferry tomorrow to cross the St John's river and see a couple sites north of here.  The ferry will save us a couple hours of driving.

While there we had lunch at Safe Harbor again. We sat outside right on the dock.  There was a fishing boat docked and cleaning fish there.  The birds were feasting!

Check the name of this ship!!

Doreen had fish and chips and I had Nashville Hot Shrimp.  Doreen's fish was huge, almost like a double portion.  My shrimp were fried, which I was not expecting, and they had a mild hot sauce applied kind of like a shrimp Buffalo Wild Wings.  I was a little disappointed as they were not real hot but they tasted pretty good.  I probably would not order them again.

That fish is as big as it looks!

After lunch we went across the street to check out the Safe Harbor Seafood Market.  This place was amazing!!  Huge and absolutely spotless on the inside.  Their selection of fish was almost endless and they had all the spices and accessory items that go along with preparing fish, shrimp, oysters, etc.
We were not expecting this ultra-clean and huge fish market

Nothing to see here.  Move along !

Large head-on shrimp $3.95/lb

Large Head-off shrimp $8.50/lb

Grouper

Spanish Mackeral, Whiting, you name it, they have it

Key Lime pies

We finished up at the fish market then drove over and talked with the ferry operators about tomorrow's adventure.  Nearby an interesting boat storage facility,  They stack them high here!

On the way back to the campground we stopped by the other RV park here at Mayport called Osprey Cove.  It is nice but we are glad we are at Pelican Roost, right on the water.  This campground has much more shade, and also has extended stay, up to six months so a lot of the "snowbirds" camp here.

Back at the campground we watched the Pirates and Cubs baseball game and went for a walk, which is a favorite past time here!  The scenery is amazing!
This is a moon shot from last night.

Liberty has had a long day!  Vacation is tiring!

Tomorrow we will take the ferry across the river and visit the Kingsley Plantation and then travel north to Amelia Island to see the lighthouse and Pippy Longstocking's house!  Liberty is going with us so we don't run into a time issue.
