19 May - Sea Shelling, Lunch at Fishlips, Ron Jon's and Florida Key Lime Pie Company

A little slower day today.  Nothing too exciting except the apparent sonic booms this morning that shook the RV.  I hung around here for a while and finished the blog from last night. Doreen went solo to the beach while I was on the computer, in search of sea shells.

The wind was really rocking this morning and the Atlantic was angry.  The beach was littered with seaweed.  Doreen watched an older gentleman scooping up the seaweed then scooping the sand underneath obviously in search of something.  He explained that he was looking for a certain shell that he had not yet found today.  Later he gave her two small ones that he found.  Although small, he said these were the ones people were looking for.
He also explained how the sea turtles will have a hard time with all the seaweed when they go to lay their eggs on the shore which they do between now and the first of June.  This is what Doreen picked up today.  None are huge but they are colorful and interesting.
Once Doreen returned it was lunchtime, so we headed down the street a short distance to a restaurant called Fishlips Waterfront Bar and Grill.  Our tour guide yesterday told us the food here was really good.

They seated us outside on the second level so we could see the ships in the harbor.  Across the bay is Cape Canaveral.  Behind us was a Royal Caribbean cruise ship sitting idle.  None of the cruise ships are operating yet due to COVID.  You can really tell it here as it is a ghost ton around here.

I ordered oysters on the half shell and Doreen ordered fish and chips.  She is not much on seafood and definitely not oysters.  That's OK.  More for me!

After lunch we headed down route A1A towards Cocoa Beach to Ron Jon's Surf Shop where we shopped for a shirt for Doreen.
Right across the street is the Florida Key Lime Pie Company and we could not pass that up.  In addition to pie they also sell key lime ice cream among other flavors, and they sell tropical fruit wines.

We picked up a couple pieces of key lime pie for our friends and a couple bottles of wine for our stash. One is Key Limen and they other is Class 5 Hurricane Tropical Sangria (mango, pineapple, water melon, passion fruit and key lime).   Doreen is working hard to restock her selection but I suspect some of this will never make it home!!

That's it for today.  We are relaxing and watching our Chicago Cubbies losing to the Nat's 2-4 as I type this.  Let's hope they can pull it out.
