Nice, quiet drive up from Miami to Cape Canaveral today. Sunday traffic was light. This is stop# 13 and we have rounded the corner in Florida and started our way up the eastern seaboard! Time is flying by.
We were shooting for an 0900 hrs departure this morning, but I had to spend some extra time cleaning the seeds and leaves off the slides before I retracted them. I use a leaf blower and a gutter attachment so no climbing on the roof needed. I use a home-brew mirror on an extension pole to inspect the slides first. The extension pole is the same pole I use to wash the coach, so multi-purpose. The mirror is a large make-up mirror I attached to a paint roller handle. Sounds hillbilly but really works good. The threads inside the paint roller handle are the same as the extension pole (because it is a paint pole) so it fits perfectly. When I get time I will patent it. Ha!
So anyway, we got on the road and headed northbound from Miami. We discussed the route with our good friend Dr. George Walker who lives in Cape Canaveral. So as to avoid a divorce, we ended up on the tollway rather than I-95, but it all worked out. In case anyone is curious, it cost $23.08 in tolls on the Florida Turnpike from southern Miami to Exit 152 where we got on I-95. It is what it is..We only had one hiccup, and that involved blue lights in the rear view mirror, but it was in the service plaza where we took a wrong turn. In my defense, the signage in the Florida Turnpike Service Plaza's SUCKS. I made that known to the State Trooper who copped an attitude with me about the whole thing......... No ticket, no warning, just copious attitude. I have so much respect for our law enforcement professionals but this guy was a dick. Ok enough with that.
Doreen captured a couple pictures on the trip up.
The Jetty Park Campground was recommended by our friend Dr. George Walker. He is an emergency room physician here in this area. George is also the founder of the Alliance Owner's Group Facebook page which I am also an admin. Alliance is the brand of RV we own. We are really looking forward to seeing George and his wife Donna here in Cape Canaveral. We have not seen them since the Alliance Rally last August, Since then George has been on the front lines of the COVID battlefield. We salute him and all the health care professionals that have been pouring their hearts and soles into battling this terrible virus.
So we rolled into Cape Canaveral early this afternoon and got all set up. This is a back-in camp site and the back end of our site borders the parking lot for the beach. They have a pedestrian gate just a couple camp sites down from ours, so we can quickly be on the beach without driving.
Our campsite is situated just a short distance from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. Tomorrow there is an Atlas 5 rocket launch and we are excited to see it , right from our camp site!! Today we walked around the Jetty Park and out on the fisherman's pier and enjoyed the view. The Cape Canaveral Air Force Station was right on the other side of the bay.
Enough for today. We have eight nights here and the list of "to do's" is long, but we will find plenty of time for the beach as well.
