24 May - Arrived at Pelican Roost RV Park at Mayport Naval Air Station Jacksonville FL

Whew, glad today is done.  We had what normally would have been a short trip today, 174 miles from Cape Canaveral to Jacksonville but it took us 6hrs and 16 minutes.  Our GPS said a 175 minute delay was added to our route.  Fun!  There was apparently a very bad wreck of some sort that completely closed northbound I-95.  So we sat there on the Interstate seemingly forever.  We would creep a few feet then stop, then creep a few feet, then stop.  I can only hope whomever was involved was not injured.

Luckily we had stopped at Buc-ee's which is Texas-based convenience store that is almost beyond description.  Buc-ee's has what they describe as a "cult following"!  The place is ultra clean and has a selection of stuff like you cannot imagine.  Our first taste (literally) of Buc-ee's was actually on our way to Houston in 2019 and we have looked forward to our next visit ever since.   So anyway, we had a full tank of fuel, snacks on-board, almost a case of water in the back seat, bladders drained, and we were towing a potty with us in our RV, so we were good to go!!

Texas barbecue right in the middle of Buc-ee's!

So we arrived at Jacksonville and quickly checked in to the Mayport Naval Air Station and the Pelican Roost RV Park.

Our site is a waterfront pull-through.  Score!!  We have a beautiful view of the St John river and the naval port where the ships come and go.
Ships come and go right past the campground

Taking Liberty for a walk.

We got all set up and then took a couple walks.  Some of the pictures above, other below.
More ships

OK, well, we will leave that right there!

Beautiful sunset tonight!

Nearby fire training facility

The area is really beautiful with the ocean, the ships and the palm trees!

OK thats it for tonight.  Several lighthouses to see in the area.  There is a plantation on the radar, and a museum down the coast a bit.  We have some phone calls to make tomorrow to organize our day visits  better.  Should be a great time at Jacksonville!

Night all!
