We headed south on A1A highway past Cocoa Beach to Patrick Space Force Base this morning. We needed to go to the commissary to restock groceries and we wanted to check out the FamCamp (Family Campground) for future reference. The sign above was at the east gate but if we were coming in with our RV we would have to use the truck/RV gate.
Driving to the FamCamp we passed the flightline and noticed some C-130 Hercules transport aircraft and also some HH-60 helicopters used by the pararescue Airmen. That's the same helicopter our son-in-law James flew on. He was a door gunner with the pararescue squadron in Alaska.

Soon we found the FamCamp called "Manatee Cove", and it was really nice. This time of year those northern RV owners who come south for the winter, called "snowbirds", have departed so there were many open camping spots. The FamCamp was well-maintained and the RV's were spaced at a reasonable distance. We may come here again with our RV. We departed the FamCamp and headed south to the commissary. Doreen restocked us on groceries and then we headed back north on A1A to Cape Canaveral.
On the way back I received a text from our friends George and Donna Walker and they wanted to stop out to Jetty Park and see us. George was the one that suggested the campground we are in and they have camped here many times.
After lunch they arrived and brought us a loaf of homemade bread and a beautiful, hand-crafted lighthouse made by their daughter, for our camper! We had not seen them since the Alliance Rally in Elkhart IN last August, so we had a lot of catching up to do! We had planned to walk to Jetty Park and watch the Atlas 5 rocket launch this afternoon from Cape Canaveral, but George checked his phone and the launch had been scrubbed for today due to a mechanical issue. They moved it to tomorrow, so we hope it goes so we can see it! George and Donna invited us over to their house for dinner tomorrow night which will be fun! They are great folks!
Later we headed down to the beach for some sun and waves. As I explained before, the beach is just a stones throw from our camp site. The pedestrian gate has a cypher lock on it so we can exit the campground and walk down to enjoy the beach, then re-enter the campground by entering the code. It is so convenient!
The wind was straight out of the east and the waves were really rocking! We soaked in some rays for a while and then walked down into the water. Considering this is the Atlantic Ocean here, the water is really pretty warm. We walked up and down in the surf with hopes of finding some sea shells, but not so much, so we headed out further into the water and let the waves beat up on us for a while. Others were boogie boarding and some surfing.
We were disappointed the launch did not go but it was still a great day! Tomorrow will be even better as we have our four hour lighthouse and space flight tour in the morning and then later tomorrow we will go over to George and Donna Walker's for dinner.

Thanks for tuning in!
