14 Apr - Arrived at Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort Just North of Atlanta GA

We departed the Plum Nelly Campground at 10:23 this morning and arrived at the Atlanta-Marietta RV Resort at 11:33 after a short 60 mile trip.  Why the short trip?  Primarily because one of our goals is to attend the Major League Baseball games and this campground is just minutes from Truist Park where the Atlanta Braves play.  This allows us to leave Liberty here in the RV and attend the game without a long commute.

While I am thinking of it:   <To those who are "following" this blog via email, we received notice today that as of July they are discontinuing that feature.  Sorry about that.  As an alternative, you can be notified if you follow me on Twitter or Facebook.>

So back to today, short trip and that is good.  We are unimpressed with this so called "RV Resort" it is a cramped little old campground, far from a "resort".  The swimming pool looks like it has not been used in years.  The spaces are all back-in and short ones at that.  There is barely enough room for our coach here and our truck is parked on their grass which is prohibited.  I'd say 3/4 of the campers here are seasonal and run down.  Translated, it looks more like a trailer court than a campground.  Junk laying everywhere. The good news is the power seems stable and the folks that run this place are nice.  No one to blame but myself, however.  I picked out the campgrounds for this trip and I made the reservations.  We will survive, plus we will minimize how much we are here!

Speaking of that, some of the venues are not doing tours due to COVID.  We were disappointed Lockheed-Martin is closed to tours.  The Olympic Park is also closed.  World of Coca-Cola is open but we are struggling trying to coordinate parking for oversized vehicles downtown.  I am going to make a couple more phone calls tomorrow on that, but I am not going to lose any sleep if we don't make it downtown. We have been warned about Atlanta traffic from folks that drive regular sized vehicles and that is amplified when you are driving a "big ol' brown truck".  It is what it is.

We will probably spend more time in and around Marietta than Atlanta.  Marietta has the Kennesaw National civil war battlefield with visitor center, a local historical museum, a fire museum and Dobbins Air Reserve Base.  We want to stop in there to check out their FamCamp (campground).  There was a reason I passed it up when I was looking for a campground in this area.  I want to see it first hand for future reference.  Oh, we also read about the Gone With the Wind museum at Brumby Hall and will likely check that out.  Brumby Hall is very historic with ties to the Civil War where it was spared destruction because of a relationship between Col Brumby and another officer that were friends from West Point.  We will learn more about this.

So, tomorrow is game day!  Miami Marlins visit the Atlanta Braves and we will be there.  Section 242, Row 13 seats 1&2!  We will check out the park and their hotdogs, but we also have a formal tour reserved for Sunday.

More tomorrow!  Thanks for following along!
