Monday, our last day in Nashville we headed down to see the Nashville Antique Archaeology store, made famous from the American Pickers television show. There are two of these stores. The original one is located in Le Claire IA, right on the Mississippi River not far from what I call my "hometown" DeWitt IA. We frequently watch this show when it is on the History Channel.

American Pickers premiered in Jan 2010 and features "pickers", folks that travel around the United States looking for vintage items and hidden gems. Antique Archeology is their store front where they sell their "picked" items. It is an interesting show with the vintage items they find in barns, attics and any place you can image. We show our age when we can relate to so many of the "vintage" items they pick. I guess that makes us vintage, or maybe just OLD! Oh well..
Antique Archeology in Nashville is located in the old Marathon Motor Works factory. It is a magnificent building and we are so glad it was preserved.
There are many shops and specialty stores located in the old buildings, and hundreds of display of the old machinery used to produce the Marathon Motor Works products - lathes, mills, grinders, etc
Machine after machine after machine, all used to produce automobile parts
Awesome wooden floor throughout the factory
Selection of leather belts used to power the various machinery and tools used to repair the belts
See the overhead shaft with pulleys and the belts powering all the machines.
The Antique Archeology store is fairly small. We were a bit disappointed as it seemed like they had very little for sale. Most items were either :"NFS" (not for sale) or they were souvenirs or t-shits, etc for sale. It was still pretty cool to visit, We are glad we stopped.
Located next door is the Jack Daniels General Store. We thought maybe they had a tasting area but mostly just souvenirs, shirts, etc. They did have used whiskey barrels for sale also.
Departing this area it was nearing lunch time and I did not want to leave the Nashville area without sampling some of the spicy hot chicken. in 2018 when we visited Memphis we had dinner at Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken where they feature hot spicy chicken. So Nashville has their own "world famous" chicken which is "Hattie-B's".
There are several locations around Nashville but one was just a few blocks from Antique Archaeology, so we headed there. Parking was non-existent, so Doreen "took one for the team" and hopped out of the truck and got in line. They did not open until 1100 hrs, so I took the truck down the street and found a parking lot where I could loiter until Doreen would text me the chicken was on-board!
Hattie-B's menu looks like this.
Notice the "heat level"! Well, Doreen knows I like spicy food, but she did not sign the waiver required for the "Shut the Cluckup". So she got me the "Damn Hot" version. This picture tells the tale! I mean to tell you, it was what I describe as "rip your lips off" hot!! But is was really good..... until the next morning LOL. The really dark areas are REALLY HOT!!
So back to the campground we went to enjoy our chicken lunch! After that we started our pre-departure pack-up in preparation for leaving the next morning.
I heard Nashville is awesome! Did you get the sweats from the wings??
ReplyDeleteIt was two whole chicken breasts. The skin was killer!! I saved one and just had it today (8 Apr)
DeleteIf you're ever back in the area go to the Jack Daniels Distillery in Lynchburg. Don't expect a tasting though. It's in a dry county. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteThanks! We did a bourbon tour near Louisville and really enjoyed it
