1 Jun - Goodbye Florida, Hello Savannah GA & Stats Update

Wow, we had an amazing time at Mayport Naval Air Station!  Pelican Roost was a fantastic campground and we will definitely be back!  Seems like I have said that a lot recently!  I said the same thing about Cape Canaveral!  OK there is a trend here... Just sayin'!!

We had a nice send-off this morning and so did a couple guided missile cruisers as they uploaded munitions and headed out to destinations unknown.  It makes you feel mighty proud of our armed forces.  I can only imagine those young Sailors onboard, executing the mission, doing what they are trained, wondering what the future will bring.  Awesome!!

All good things must come to an end, though, so this morning at 0947 hrs we pulled chocks and headed northbound on I-95 to Savannah GA. Our late start was deliberate as it was a fairly short travel day and check-in time was at 1400 hrs.  The traffic was busy, but not bad.  The Dames Point Bridge over the St John's River was beautiful.

We had one pit-stop on the way at the Georgia Welcome Center, a good place to grab some brochures and maps.

We arrived at the Creekfire "Motor Ranch" RV Resort at 1245 hrs.  They can charge a $10 fee for early check-in but they gave us a break on that today.  Total miles traveled was just 138 miles.

Check-in was painless and we were led to our campsite by a host in a golf cart.  I had reserved a water-front spot near their lake which is a pull-through site, eliminating the hassle of backing in.  All of their sites are full hook-up which sure makes it nice (50 amp electric, + water + sewer).  Other amenities here include daily trash pick-up at your site, two restaurants and bars, a beautiful swimming pool, a splash pad for the kids, a lazy river, canoe/kayak/boat rental, various court games such as tennis, shuffle board, pickle ball, peddle carts, golf carts, weekly bands, and on and on... Critters here too!  Liberty is not thrilled!

We got set-up quickly and had some lunch before heading our with Liberty and a walk-about.  Nice, widely-spaced long sites.  Dry here.  The grass is really brown.

After dinner we walked over to the lazy river and cruised around for a while.  We met a nice couple from Florida.  The guy retired from a State Farm agency and his wife worked in the office also.  They have a Class C and are traveling around also.
We are only going to be here for five nights.  Tomorrow (Wednesday) we plan to visit Tybee Island and I have an oil change scheduled for the truck.  Thursday we are headed for Hilton Head Island to visit Doreen's aunt.  Friday we are taking the resort's shuttle to downtown Savannah and in the afternoon Liberty is going to the doggie spa for a shampoo, groom, and pedi!  Saturday is open right now but we have a few other things on the list and then Sunday we bug out.

Thanks for tuning in!
