This morning at 0918 hrs we pulled chocks at Charlotte/Ft Mill Koa and headed east to Fayetteville NC. Traffic was manageable and the trip was fairly uneventful. We rolled into the Fayetteville RV Resort and Cottages at 1240 hrs after driving 163 miles. This is a pretty nice campground. Has the looks of a former KOA with the A-frame office building and all. They checked us in quickly and we pulled into our full hook-up pull-through spot. The satellite dish aligned right between two trees, so we are watching the Cubs and the Mets as I type this.
These pull-throughs are really long, probably close to 100 ft. I would have room for our Alliance coach, our truck and another vehicle too.
The campground has two swimming pools, miniature golf, horse shoes, sand volleyball, basketball and many other activities. We went for a dip in the pool to cool down a bit this afternoon. Near the main pool is a spa pool and a screened-in activities room with a ping pong table.
My father, Lefty Schellhase and his brother, my uncle Bernard, served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. One of the men my father served with was killed in action and my father brought the man's wrist bracelet back from the war.
Back in 2011 I found it in my Dad's foot locker and after exhausting Internet searches and many phone calls to American Legions and other places, I actually found a living nephew and returned the bracelet back to the family. Tomorrow we will travel about an hour south and meet Mr. Norman W. Maultsby, Lt Jefferson W Maultsby's nephew. If you are so inclined, here is one of the newspaper articles about the bracelet,

So more about that tomorrow. Saturday we have a list of things we want to see here in Fayetteville including the Special Ops Museum on Ft Bragg.
