24 Jun - Arrived Virginia Beach VA + Stats Update

Today we moved from Onslow Beach Camp LeJeune NC to Sea Mist RV Park at Oceana Naval Air Station Dam Neck Annex, Virginia Beach VA.  This is stop #20 on our journey.  The 229 mile trip took 5:18 with one fuel stop and two rest area stops.  We had a delay right out of the chute as the draw bridge was open at Onslow Beach so some boats could pass.  The bridge opens and closes very slowly...

The journey north was fairly uneventful.  For the most part you get on Highway 17 and pedal to the metal.  We crossed a couple good sized bridges, one was over the Pamlico River and the other was over the Chowan River.  The route was a mix of two-lane and four-lane.  Not a bad drive, just long for us.

In addition to their 65 full hook up RV sites they have some nice cabins for rent

We rolled into Dam Neck Annex, part of Oceana Naval Air Station just before 1400 hrs and got set up quickly. The sites are nice, fairly level paved with an attached paved patio and parking area. The paved site helps to keep the inside of the RV cleaner as we don't drag in as much sand, grass, mud, etc.  Each site is full hook-up and we each have a picnic table

Plenty of separation between neighbors

Our site is next to the building that houses the office, so no neighbors on this side

There is a north side of the campground which is newer where we are, and then there is a south side, the older side a bit more traditional with mature trees.  They two are not connected and the south side is where the only operational laundry facility is, so we decided to take a drive and have a look.  About half way through the south side we spied another Alliance RV just like ours, so we stopped and introduced ourselves since we are all FamAlly (family of Allies).  This 310RL is owned by Greg and Doris Mercado!  Greg is retired Navy and they are Virginia residents.  We invited them down to our RV later so we could talk more and we headed back to our coach.

A while later Greg and Doris stopped by and we showed them the modifications and enhancements we had done.  I had never met Greg before but we both knew each other from Facebook posts on the Alliance RV Group!  Small world!.  And, as they are Virginia residents, who better to place our Virginia sticker that the Mercados!
Greg placing the Virginia sticker.  Only two states left!  Maryland and Delaware!

We have not yet laid out any plans for this stop as we will be here for six nights, but there are a few lighthouses in the area so that will be a starting point.  The beach is within walking distance so we will surely enjoy that too.
