Today we travelled from Savannah GA to our next stop, Foster Creek RV Park in Charleston SC. This is stop #16 on our RV trip for this summer. We were sorry to leave Savannah. That resort was really nice and we really enjoyed our stay there. But moss does not grow on a rolling stone, so away we go to our next adventure.
We pulled chocks at Savannah at 0947 hrs this morning and headed up I-95 towards Charleston. The traffic was not bad and we just had one pit stop for bladder relief, us and the dog!
We rolled into Foster Creek RV Park at 1230 hrs and 128 miles later, in the rain. We can't complain , though, as this is the first time on this trip we've had to either tear down or set up in the rain. So it was just a light rain and we set up quickly - kind of have this down to a science. As long as I was wet, I pulled the anode rod on the water heater and flushed it again after sanitizing yesterday. Blah, blah, blah, I know. Bottom line is that helped to eliminate the residual bleach smell on the hot water side. So the water system is all good now.
The Foster Creek RV Park is part of the Joint Base Charleston Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) system. This park is located off base, so a little unique but we are not behind a gate. Why do we stay in military campgrounds? Well, we have a nice full hookup site here with plenty of space, for $22/night. The last place we were camping was over $70/night. We seldom stay in a campground that expensive, but once in a while. But this place is nice and quiet and we will enjoy our stay.
We are in a cul de sac with a few other coaches, and there is a basketball net for the kids. There is also a nice playground with a full basketball court in a centralized park area.
On Tuesday we will load up the pooch and drive even further south to Hunting Island State Park to see the Hunting Island Lighthouse. It will be a little over 2 hrs drive one way so we will have to take Liberty with us.
Wednesday we plan to visit downtown Charleston, as much as we can in the morning. We are still working out the logistics in taking the "big ol' brown truck" down there , parking, etc. We will figure something out. Then Wednesday evening we have tickets for a "sunset cruise" where we will see the Sullivan's Island lighthouse from the catamaran.
Thursday we will join our friend Jan for a golf cart tour of Sullivan Island, specifically the lighthouse and Fort Moultrie
Friday we are reserving for anything remaining, plus that is the day before we leave, so we usually pack up, clean up and get ready to bug out the next morning.
Mixed in there sometime there are a couple restaurants we want to check out. Doreen recorded a TV show hosted by Andrew Zimmern on the Food Channel that featured Charleston SC and some great restaurants with interesting food.
We are looking forward to exploring Charleston and seeing our friend Jan again. And of course we have a little task that needs tended to and she does not know it yet but we hope to recruit Jan, who is a South Carolina resident, to help us with "placing the South Carolina sticker"! Not many states remain!
