Today we visited Edinburgh Indiana, just a few miles east of Camp Atterbury where we are camping. Edinburgh IN was first settled around 1822 and was the first town in the county. From what we learned they are unsure how the town got it's name with several hypothesis but nothing for sure.
Driving into town we passed over a bridge on the Big Blue River and just to the north was the picturesque dam shown above.
As we drove around Edinburgh there were some beautiful old structures and newer ones also. Check this out. I expected Gomez or Morticia Addams to pop around the corner about any time!!
When we checked into our campground we were quickly greeted by the camp host. The camp host lives in the campground and is there to address issues quickly, act as a liaison with the lodging office or answer questions of the campers. The camp host gave us a sheet of paper with suggestions on local things to see and do and one of them was: "For the biggest pork tenderloin, about 12" round, go to Edinburgh Diner." Coming from Iowa where we are famous for our pork tenderloins, we had to give it a go!
As we approached the Edinburgh Diner, Doreen and I were guessing what used to be in the building, maybe a Hardee's? Anyway it did not look very big and we were correct. There was a waiting list when we entered and quite a few tables with no food yet, but we decided to stay. We were seated within 15 minutes and glanced quickly at the menu, which had a great selection of entrees. Some food was rolling out of the kitchen by now and what we saw made the decision easy. We ordered one tenderloin between the two of us which came with fries, and two sodas. Within another 10 minutes our tenderloin showed up and, well, have a look here!
OK you need to look closer because that tenderloin has been cut in half and is double stacked on the bun!!
I did not line up the cuts on the picture between the two plates, but the thing is monstrous! Doreen and I each cut our half portions in half again and set them aside. We split the fries and both were full when we left. So, the $9.99 tenderloin sandwich got us four meals - two today and two later in the camper!
Tomorrow we drive into Indianapolis to watch the Indianapolis Indians (Pittsburgh Pirates AAA) host the St. Paul Saints (Minnesota Twins AAA). Our son was a baseball catcher in high school and one of his pitchers, Joel "The Hammer" Hanrahan, is the Indianapolis Indian's pitching coach, so it will be great to see him again!
