We weathered Tropical Storm Elsa just fine. Here in Richmond it was basically a rain event, as they predicted. We received winds that only peaked at 20 mph and we received right at 2" of rain. The rain did pool in the campground a bit, but by now a lot of it has drained or evaporated. Our site roads are compacted gravel so I don't see any issues getting out of here Sunday.
With the unknowns of the storm last night and the tornado watch we were under, we did pack our "bug-out" bag with the minimal important stuff in case we needed to evacuate quickly. Luckily we did not have to "bug-out".
Speaking of "bugging out", kudo's to the DSC Richmond emergency management folks and the MWR staff. They stopped by twice yesterday to make sure we were OK and that we knew where our evacuation site was located and where our shelter was in case of tornado. They printed us off maps and delivered them to each camper.
Doreen took Liberty out to pee this morning and found a box turtle taking shelter under our camper! What beautiful markings it has. Later in the day it had apparently returned to it's lair.
We decided to stay put today and work on Washington DC plans. I think we have a good route laid out to get there. We contacted the Fort Meade FamCamp and confirmed our reservation and entrance gate to use. We worked on the list of things we wanted to see and researched to see which ones are open and which ones are not open. I dug into the mass transit some more, loaded some apps, downloaded some maps, etc. We did take a few breaks and walk Liberty around too.
Tomorrow we will replenish the groceries, pick up a few other things, refuel the truck and prepare to depart Sunday morning. Because these sites do not have sewer, we will have to drive over to the RV dump station and dump/flush things good before we leave.
