12 Jul - First Train to Union Station, the Capitol and Supreme Court

This morning we drove to the Odenton MARC train station just a few minutes from our campground, boarded the MARC train and headed "downtown" to the Union Station where the train ends.

Love the old school train station sign.

Inside the Union Station is very ornate, kind of reminds me of Grand Central Station in New York.

We then walked to the Hart Senate Office Building where we will meet with one of our Senators on Wednesday. We got the commute timing down for our meeting and then headed off sightseeing.

Around the corner was the Supreme Court building and according to our research is was supposed to be open so we gave it a go.  Front door is secured, so around the side we go and were immediately headed off by a security guard.  The building is not open to the public no matter what the erroneous web site says!  Well, alrighty then!

Across the street to the west is our nation's Capitol building and they have recently taken down the fences from the January events.  So we were able to walk fairly close to the building.

The temperature today by this time had hit 90F and the humidity reminds me of Iowa during RAGBRAI, so we headed back towards the Union Station to get a cold drink and get our bearings on the return trip.

On the walk back we passed some homeless folks campsites. Undoubtedly some homeless Vets there as well.   Maybe some day we can help these folks take care of themselves so they don't have to pitch a tent in front of Union Station.

Tomorrow we head back down to Union Station and then further west to the Washington Monument that is REOPENING Wednesday!
