10 Jul - NSTR Last Day in Richmond

Our last day in Richmond VA.  No touring today.  Took little miss Liberty for a walk this morning and then we headed out to do some shopping and then back to the campground.  Liberty had a seizure this afternoon that lasted longer than before.  She has had a couple before and her vet said if they increased in frequency or duration he would give us some medication for that.  Lets hope this was another isolated case.  It sure scares us when it happens.

This afternoon we worked around here.  Doreen and I washed the RV and the truck - Ugh!  That's lots of square feet of washing and it was really humid out, but they needed it.  I wanted to get any remaining salt spray off the surface, but I figured the rain probably took care of most of that.

We have really enjoyed our stay here at this little FamCamp.  It is nothing fancy, no playground for kids or any other amenities, but very adequate, low priced and secure  It is a great place to see the Richmond area, Appomattox and other things around here.  I would not hesitate to stay here again.

During some of our previous walks here on base I took pictures of some of their static display aircraft but never posted them.

F-4 Phantom II from the 158th Fighter Wing Vermont Air National Guard - The Green Mountain Boys

The F-4 flew from 1958 to 1996, seeing much service in Vietnam.  Flies with a crew of two.

The A-10 Thunderbolt II came from Shaw AFB South Carolina

The A-10's GAU-8/U 30mm Gatling gun positioned in the nose, fires 3900 rounds per minute!  That's 65 rounds per second folks.

OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter.  We had these in Iraq

Tomorrow morning we will head for the Camp Meade RV Park at Fort Meade MD.  This is supposed to be a really nice military FamCamp with a really reasonable price considering we are in the Washington DC area.  The downside is we are out quite a ways, actually closer to Baltimore than Washington DC.  With the "big ol' brown truck" we will be reliant on mass transit for our touring.  We are hoping for very uneventful travel tomorrow.

Next report from Fort Meade!
