11 Jul - Arrived at Fort Meade (Washington DC) + Stats Update

We departed Richmond VA this morning at 0922 hrs and traveled I-95 for about 35 miles and then northeast on US 301 the majority of the way to Fort Meade, which is located NE of the Washington DC area, near Odenton. This is stop #23 out of  35 on this trip.  The route took us on the Governor Harry W. Nice Memorial/Senator Thomas “Mac” Middleton Bridge across the Potomac River into Maryland.

We decided on this route rather than taking I-95 due to the negative feedback on the RV social media sites about I-95 & RV's.  Also, apparently RV's are not allowed on the "parkways", so bottom line we were very pleased with the US 301.  We stopped once along the way but still made the 150 mile trip in 3 hrs 34 minutes.

Once at Fort Meade we processed right in through the Mapes Road gate and made our way to Camp Meade, which is the FamCamp here on Fort Meade.  Confusing enough?  Yep!
The Outdoor Recreation office closed on the weekends

Contacting the campground on Friday was smart as the office is closed on the weekend.  Had we not contacted them, they said we were on the list that they would have contacted us.  Nevertheless, we had the gate code and made our way past the entrance and right around the loop to our campsite.  We scored there also.  I made the reservations back in November and could have paid a deposit but not be guaranteed what site we would get, or pay in advance and lock in the site#.  I went ahead and paid in advance and ended up saving significant money as they had a rate increase from $43 to $55/night X 18 nights.  Do the math, plus our site is satellite friendly.

The campsite we chose back in November did not disappoint!  We are in a very long, paved, full hookup, pull through site with a nice patio area, fire ring and picnic table and our neighbors on either side are a long ways away!

The Class A in the distance is our neighbor to the left!

You can barely see our neighbor to the right!

A perspective from the rear.  We even have our own fire plug!  Liberty is happy!

Speaking of Liberty, thanks to everyone who shared their concerns and well-wishes about Liberty and her seizure.  She is doing fine today.  Hopefully this will continue to be a once or twice a year thing, but if not our vet has a plan of treatment involving some medication for her.
Liberty on her "perch" waiting for her "mom" to get back from the laundry!

So we arrived and got all set up.  We had a late lunch and then Doreen walked a short distance to the laundry facility and did three loads.  Later we took a walk through the campground and found an Iowa  Bremer County (Waverly) license plate on a tow vehicle.  We will try to hook up with them sometime while we are here to find out who they are.  Waverly is the town basically north of Cedar Falls where Doreen was born and raised, and where we both went to high school.  Because they are in this campground and they are apparently retired military, so we might even know them!

One last task - a new state!!  Maryland "bites the dust".  The only state remaining besides Hawaii is Delaware!  The vast majority have been completed since I retired militarily in 2015, so we have been busy!  Almost 100k miles on the big ol' brown truck.  Delaware will happen after we leave Washington DC.

Doreen reaches high to place Maryland's decal!

That remaining little white speck is Delaware!

Tomorrow we have to stop by the campground office and give them a copy of Liberty's immunization record and then we are going to head to the Odenton MARC train station to do a dry run for Wednesday when we meet with our Senator from Iowa, Joni Ernst in the morning.
